Our logo - an outstretched hand - expresses our signature spirit: Humanity, universality and proximity.
A RESSENCE is meant to be your accomplice; it is a part of you, it blends with you. The hand is also a gentle nod to our home city, the historic international port of Antwerp - a cross-roads for cultures and viewpoints.
RESSENCE’s starting point is the deconstruction of the traditional watch in order to express Time in the purest possible way. Our original concept, summed up by our motto #BEYONDHANDS, is to replace the conventional horological hands with rotating discs for an intuitive reading of the Time.
Beyond Industrial Design
Benoît Mintiens, our founder and creative mind, is an industrial designer who already had a portfolio of designs to his credit - high-speed trains, aircraft cabins, medical devices, leather goods and even hunting guns before he ever designed a watch.
His approach to fine-watchmaking is entirely fresh and undeniably contemporary.
The mind-set of an industrial designer like Benoît is to adopt a methodology that guarantees a holistic approach considering the end user as the ultimate evaluation criterion.
At RESSENCE, the user is at the core of what we do. Mechanical fine-watchmaking is the vector to express our concept as we design our watches from the exterior to the interior.
To realise the innovative ideas behind a RESSENCE watch requires a superlative attention to detail and craftsmanship. We work with a dedicated atelier in Switzerland - the benchmark of excellence - to produce our watches.
Excellence is an imperative as a RESSENCE is the result of years of research and development. Nearly all of the components that go to make one of our watches, from the tiniest of cogs to the most complex 3D shaped bridges, are indeed custom-made for us.
We design and engineer our watches in Antwerp, Belgium. The first thing we ask is what do people need? Functionality is key. Next we start questioning the user experience. We aim to awaken senses and provoke wonder. Then we begin manufacturing around our ideas. We innovate, we create. It requires time and commitment. We produce and assemble our watches in Fleurier, Switzerland.
Small wonder then that quality control is also of paramount importance. Each completed RESSENCE watch undergoes testing in our headquarters to our own R500H accreditation standards - this implies 500 hours of close examination across six stringent criteria.
These ensure the robust build, smooth running and long life of each individual watch.
Founded in 2010, RESSENCE is a unique horological start-up creating innovative mechanical fine-watches.
We represent an independent way of thinking about fine watchmaking - no less expertly hand-crafted, but with an industrial design philosophy that seeks to be progressive with a clear, graphic aesthetic that is decidedly 21st century.
Benoît introduces three functional prototypes at Baselworld. Our new concept receives ecstatic reviews.
The ZERO SERIES, a limited run of 50 pieces, is launched to meet the demand of connoisseurs around the globe. It sells out.
We introduce the SERIES ONE, a 150 piece edition based on the ZERO SERIES.
The TYPE 3, the first ever oil-filled mechanical watch takes the watch industry by surprise. It is applauded as one of the most innovative watches of the year.
We release the TYPE 1, our most stripped back watch to date.
TYPE 5, the first mechanical diver watch to be perfectly readable underwater regardless of the viewing angle, is launched.
The Cultural Council of the Fondation de la Haute Horlogerie certifies that RESSENCE meets Haute Horlogerie standards of excellence, the techniques of watchmaking in symbiosis with the applied arts.
Thanks to our freedom to think differently, we have already reached some international recognition.

WHAT THEY SAY ABOUT US
"This year at BaselWorld, we had four contributors running all over the show covering everyone from Eberhard to Omega to HYT to Patek. There was but one single appointment where each member of HODINKEE team made sure to be there to see the latest pieces – that appointment was with RESSENCE."
"It’s only five years old. It’s Belgian. And there’s no watchmaker, not even a businessman, at the helm. And yet RESSENCE, founded by industrial designer Benoît Mintiens, may just be the most important thing in watches right now."
"RESSENCE respects the first fundamental rule everyone should bear in mind when looking to conquer the watch market: what can I offer that doesn’t already exist? Often, when we ask the newcomers who approach us this question, the conversation ends there as they are unable to provide an answer. In the case of RESSENCE, the answer is blindingly obvious as the products speak for themselves."
"It’s no secret that I’m a big fan of Belgian watchmaker RESSENCE and its dedication to slick engineering and creativity, evident in signature nested dials. It’s one of the few modern brands doing something truly innovative and unique with horology -something that could never have been done in the past."
"If there is one complaint to level at the Swiss watch industry, it is its reticence to embrace radical new thinking, either mechanical or aesthetic. It can sometimes take new upstarts to rock the boat – and perhaps none more so than Ressence, a Belgian company founded by Benoît Mintiens."
"Hyper-cool Ressence reasserted its image as the go-to house for seemingly inexplicable technology: its signature display is a bona fide trompel'oeil, with its flush, rotating discs now housed in a cushion-shaped stainless steel case."
